Vagabond Martial Arts Society
"Feed the Fire."

Vagabond Martial Arts Society is dedicated to preserving and transmitting the ancient combative systems of China and Southeast Asia. The Arts we teach are each distinct and unique in the training methods used, techniques learned and skills developed. But the thread running through all these Arts are what we sometimes call "The Method". In the study of martial arts people are often inefficient in their training and unclear about their goals or how to correctly prioritize their skills. Some of our students have been teachers or master instructors of other martial arts. Our "Method" creates a better martial artist who learns faster, more efficiently and correctly, regardless of style. We teach mature adults in a friendly, safe, and highly productive environment. For over 40 years we have taught these unique fighting methods in their purest form. We welcome sincere students to learn these rare arts and be a part of our family.

THE ARTS
WALKING IN THE FOOTSTEPS OF THE MASTERS
TAOIST YOGA ~ SHANTI YOGA ~ TAI CHI CHUAN
The many benefits of Yoga, Tai Chi Chuan and Qigong have been proven throughout history and by scientific study in our modern age. Every aspect of a human being is improved by these practices. Physical health and fitness, mental clarity and emotional balance. These practices are supplementary training for high performance athletes, physical rehabilitation prescribed by physicians, and a creative and life enhancing recreational activity. We welcome adults of any level of health or physical fitness to our group.
KUNTAO ~ KUNTAW ~ KUNTAU
We draw our Kuntao from Indo-Chinese Liu Seong Kuntao, Filipino Kuntaw, and Malay Kuntau. These rare arts are primarily (although not exclusively) empty hand methods, and empty hand defense against weapons. These are powerful and brutal methods for use in life and death situations. This training is only for individuals who have proven themselves to be mature and discerning individuals who would only use these skills in the most extreme circumstances.
PENTJAK SILAT
Indonesian Silat is often called "Brutal and Beautiful". The physical training is partly like Yoga, creating a suppleness in the body with fluid and smooth dance-like movements. The Silat practitioner gracefully destroys the opponent by applying techniques from every skill set (kicking, punching, joint locking, throwing, grappling, etc.) and even weaponry. There are methods of meditation and internal power development that improves the practitioner`s life, and creates will power and determination in combat. Silat is an ethical system of self defense and a superior method of self development. Silat is a diverse system that attracts a wide variety of practitioners. From women who are attracted to the beauty and health benefits, to law enforcement and military and executive protection personnel, to elderly people who desire a creative and life enhancing recreational activity.
CHUAN FA
Chuan Fa refers to the pre-WW2 methods of combat. The shocking power and subtle movements these systems express are unique in the world of martial arts. The words "kung fu", "wushu", and "kuoshu" are relatively modern terms to describe modern systems or modern training methods that have goals such as sport and exercise. Chuan Fa is only for combat and is the source of karate, kenpo, and related arts.
KALI ~ ARNIS ~ ESKRIMA
The Filipino Martial Arts (FMA) are battlefield systems proven throughout history, and are being taught today to active duty military around the world. These are primarily weapons based methods but empty hand skills are developed also. The training develops blinding speed and reflexes in the practitioner. It is common for advanced martial artists to undertake the study of FMA to take their skills to the next level. No other system or method of training comes close to developing the hand speed, coordination, instinctive reflex action and superior timing that FMA does.
